Gen AI for Public Engagement and Knowledge Exchange

This chapter explores the use cases Public engagementof generative AIgenerative AI to create tailored contents based on already published outputs such journals, book chapters, and conference reports. The purpose of these is to enable researchers to present their works in more accessible formats to a wider range of audiences, including practitioners, industry stakeholders, policy makers, third sector organisations, and the public. This is especially pertinent in the context of broader conversations about open scienceOpen science and public engagementPublic engagement, and the imperative of knowledge exchange and the Third Mission of universities and research organisations. Thus, examples in this chapter will include use of generative AI to create, from published research, contents suitable for different social mediasocial media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X; the generation of infographics and other visual contents from published research; creation of podcast scripts from published research; and custom GPTsCustom GPTs for large technical reports and policy briefs. The chapter will also discuss use of Gen AI for patent drafting and analysis based on research innovationInnovation; and the creation of research briefs summarising the implication of published studies for specific industries.
