Due to the continuing popularity of workshops in organizations, their design and implementation now represent a broad market for facilitators and consultants who compete with sophisticated methods for the favor of customers willing to pay. References to their own publications on moderation and workshop methods often serve to demonstrate their competence and promise to make it easier to market their own services. In the meantime, the practice-oriented literature on workshops is correspondingly extensive and often similar in the way it describes its approach. The focus here is mostly on the “event” of the workshop, with its internal momentum in the specific situation, while the phases upstream and downstream of the event seem to play a minor role.
