This chapter advances Pierre Bourdieu’s relational sociology for research on transnational and global fields, arguing for a reflexive (neo)-Bourdieusian relationism in field theory. To this end, we outline four innovative directions for relational theorising beyond a ‘national’ frame of reference: (1) variable relationality; (2) the reflexive theorisation of macro-level power relations; (3) the shift from uni- to multi-scalar relationalism; and (4) the poly-contextualization of field relations through a generalised frame of a ‘global field of power.’ Building on and extending the growing scholarship on cross-border fields, the article demonstrates that a (neo)-Bourdieusian relationalism provides a flexible framework for analysing global, transnational, and national contexts without succumbing to conceptual reification or reverse methodological transnationalism.
