This chapter examines what is required for radical therapy in terms of its theoretical foundations and a number of guiding principles. I draw substantially from critical psychology, but believe that the integration of existential and transpersonal theory provides a truly holistic understanding of the sources of suffering and the means necessary to promote healing (Gruba-McCallister, Radical healing: No wellness without justice. University Professors Press, 2025). Problems caused by the adoption of an overly individualistic perspective based in capitalist ideology are discussed, with attention to psychologism. Five principles of radical therapy are described: the societal nature of human beings; the role of power; the need for a developmental framework; skepticism regarding the taken-for-granted; and the promotion of liberation.

摘要
