This study has examined the relationship between EU energy politics and WTO law, focusing on how the EU's Internal Energy Market can be promoted and protected through three crucial “horizontal” instruments (the EU Screening Regulation, the EU CBAM Mechanism and the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation) in a way that is consistent with the requirements of WTO law. The results of this analysis are summarized in this Section. Overall, this study has shown that while it is strategically imperative to protect the EU Internal Energy Market from undue foreign influence in order to promote the EU’s “strategic energy autonomy” and its “open strategic autonomy” more generally, it is not an easy task to promote this objective on the basis of unilateral measures such as those analysed in this treatise in a WTO-compliant manner.

摘要
