Method of Reduction in the Teaching of Mobility Analysis
摘要
The mechanism and machine science is a multifaceted and sophisticated study subject that contains a vast quantity of information that students interpret and process in their own unique ways. Deductive presentation of a study material is typical in teaching science and engineering. However, elements of the inductive approach—which forms one’s own knowledge gradually via experience and perception—are beneficial for education, particularly for junior students. Reduction of coplanar kinematic chains provides an inductive method of analyzing structure, properties and mobility of linkages. Without the use of formulas, students can rearrange links, identify hinged four-bar linkages, reduce the given chain, and calculate its mobility using just one basic pattern of simple, immobile loop. For a junior mechanical engineering student, the ability to identify various kinematic chains, modify and rearrange them is essential. Kinematic chain structure can still be analyzed using standard procedures. They are only enhanced by the method of reduction. For certain students, nevertheless, it can help them perceive and comprehend the course information.
