Role of Echocardiography in Cardio-Oncology Patients
摘要
One of the most common causes of death in the world is cancer; common treatments of cancer patients by chemo-radiotherapy have led to an increase in the life expectancy of these patients. Unfortunately, the treatment of cancer patients leads to various complications, especially cardiovascular complications, To overcome this problem, the field of cardio-oncology has been established, The goal of this field is to provide optimal cardiovascular care to cancer patients by using a multidisciplinary setting involving a cardiologist, oncologist, surgeon, cardiac physiologist, specialist nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals, Comprehensive echocardiography has critical role in evaluation of cardio-oncology patients, before, during and after chemoradiotherapy, Comprehensive echocardiography in cardio-oncology patients leads to the identification of patients with a high risk of cardiovascular complications before chemo-radiotherapy, as well as the identification of cardiovascular complications during chemo-radiotherapy, so with the information obtained from it and by using cardioprotective strategies, including modifying the chemotherapy regimen and changing The type of treatment regimen and the use of cardioprotective drugs minimize the cardiovascular effects of chemo-radiotherapy.
