The pericardium is a thin avascular sac surrounding the heart and the origins of the great vessels. A healthy pericardium is elastic and contains a small amount of fluid to allow for smooth motion of the heart. Diseases of the pericardium result in excess accumulation of fluid and/or scarring of the pericardium rendering it stiff and inelastic. This chapter will focus on the CMR imaging findings for the two most common reasons for CMR evaluation of pericardial disease: acute pericarditis and constrictive pericarditis.

摘要

The pericardium is a thin avascular sac surrounding the heart and the origins of the great vessels. A healthy pericardium is elastic and contains a small amount of fluid to allow for smooth motion of the heart. Diseases of the pericardium result in excess accumulation of fluid and/or scarring of the pericardium rendering it stiff and inelastic. This chapter will focus on the CMR imaging findings for the two most common reasons for CMR evaluation of pericardial disease: acute pericarditis and constrictive pericarditis.
