Parental Guidance on AI Usage: Balancing Educational Benefits and Screen Time
摘要
In the twenty-first century, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized education by providing powerful tools that enhance learning experiences for children. This study explores the multifaceted role of parental guidance in navigating artificial intelligence (AI) usage in child education, focusing on balancing educational benefits with screen time management. As AI-powered educational tools proliferate, they present significant opportunities for personalized learning, cognitive development, and skill acquisition. However, these benefits come with potential risks, including excessive screen time that may adversely affect children’s physical health and mental well-being. The research highlights the need for parents to establish clear screen time guidelines, promote high-quality content, and engage in joint activities with their children to foster a balanced digital environment. The findings indicate that while AI technologies can enhance learning experiences, parental involvement is crucial for ensuring that children develop healthy relationships with technology. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous education for parents on the implications of AI in education and the necessity of adapting parenting strategies to support children’s digital citizenship. The study concluded that the integration of AI in child education requires a collaborative approach involving parents, educators, and technology developers to optimize the benefits while minimizing risks. Parents should actively monitor their children’s AI interactions and create a family media plan that prioritizes both educational outcomes and physical activities. It is however recommended that, educational institutions provide resources and support to parents, enabling them to foster a healthy balance between AI-enhanced learning and traditional play and learning activities. This proactive approach is essential for maximizing the educational potential of AI tools while safeguarding children’s overall well-being and development.
