In this short, concluding chapter, I provide an overview of the preceding study, before going on to consider possible further directions for the study of dialect literature. I discuss how recent work in reading groups, Ecostylistics and Literacy Studies, respectively, might be extended to this body of work. In the final section, I return to the question of reading dialect literature for pleasure that was posed in the introduction and suggest that, if a revival of interest in English dialect literature is to take place, then it must be grounded in an appreciation of its unique aesthetic qualities.

摘要

In this short, concluding chapter, I provide an overview of the preceding study, before going on to consider possible further directions for the study of dialect literature. I discuss how recent work in reading groups, Ecostylistics and Literacy Studies, respectively, might be extended to this body of work. In the final section, I return to the question of reading dialect literature for pleasure that was posed in the introduction and suggest that, if a revival of interest in English dialect literature is to take place, then it must be grounded in an appreciation of its unique aesthetic qualities.
