What Room for Manoeuvre?
摘要
Freeing ourselves from the determinisms that lead us to adopt behaviors incompatible with the preservation of the planet is extremely difficult. Obviously, it is impossible to change our internal determinisms. On the other hand, it is possible to influence external determinisms, i.e., those that come from our society. The proposal I make is to regulate individual consumption more or less radically and thus put an end to a fundamental principle that all societies have integrated: everyone has the right to consume as much as their financial means allow. I analyze the consequences of challenging this principle, examining the positive and negative outcomes that result. Challenging the dogma of totally free individual consumption implies a major anthropological and political revolution, the only one capable of preventing a massive collapse of our civilization.
