Equipping Students for the Future: Strategies to Close the Education–Industry Divide Through Reskilling and Upskilling

In the rapidly evolving global economy, the demand for skilled workforce has intensified, necessitating a focus on reskilling and upskilling initiatives for students. Higher Education Institutions play a significant role in enhancing the employability skills and career-readiness of graduates by incorporating various programs, courses and activities in the curriculum, including learner-centric instructional methods and through academia-industry collaboration activities. With the concept of Life Long Learning gaining thrust day-by-day, this study explores effective reskilling and upskilling educational strategies to equip students with the requisite skills that are vital to be at par with the dynamic industrial demands. By examining various reskilling and upskilling initiatives of Higher Education Intuitions, the research seeks to identify the key components that contribute to their success, from the learners’ perspective and provide insights into how educational institutions can better align their offerings with the dynamic requirements of the job market, bridge the skill gap, thereby preparing students to meet the challenges as future workforce. The findings may serve as recommendations for policy decisions and best practices for integrating reskilling and upskilling into mainstream education, ultimately contributing to a more agile and competitive workforce.
