Mixing and Clashing
摘要
This concluding chapter explores how some reflexivity approaches can be combined well in music therapy research and examines other less effective combinations that create theoretical friction. Examples of those that blend productively include Lens Reflexivity and Restorative Reflexivity (where researchers acknowledge their subjective lenses whilst serving social justice agendas); Lens Reflexivity and Empathic Reflexivity (where researchers examine the impact of their subjectivity and use empathic attunement); and Restorative Reflexivity with Relational Reflexivity (seeking to enhance social justice and embracing relational perspectives on knowledge creation). The chapter also presents examples of triple combinations, such as Lens, Restorative and Empathic Reflexivity, where researchers can simultaneously work with their preconceptions, empathise authentically, and advance social justice goals. The discussion extends beyond individual studies to position reflexivity as fundamental for how researchers move through the world. Reflexivity is framed as a fundamental human capacity for navigating contemporary challenges.
