Due to the use of highly directional antennas in future terahertz (THz) communication systems, precise alignment between the transmitter (TX) and the receiver (RX) is mandatory. Thus, the process by which the TX and the RX find each other is a key challenge for these systems, which is called device discovery. In this chapter, the challenges of device discovery are explained in more detail, followed by a possible solution to overcome the challenges: a device discovery approach supported by well-known compressed sensing techniques. To make this approach suitable for future systems, a hardware-based acceleration of the approach is discussed in addition.

摘要

Due to the use of highly directional antennas in future terahertz (THz) communication systems, precise alignment between the transmitter (TX) and the receiver (RX) is mandatory. Thus, the process by which the TX and the RX find each other is a key challenge for these systems, which is called device discovery. In this chapter, the challenges of device discovery are explained in more detail, followed by a possible solution to overcome the challenges: a device discovery approach supported by well-known compressed sensing techniques. To make this approach suitable for future systems, a hardware-based acceleration of the approach is discussed in addition.
