The main aim of this paper is to investigate the link between enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and artificial intelligence. The paper provides the foundation of the ERP basic infrastructure. The integrating ERP and AI follows two approaches: Augmented (ERP-I) and embedded (IERP). The opportunities for such link include the existence of the data to be used for training, test, and operation of AI is available within the organization database. The challenges refer to the types of ERP internal data is mainly in numeric form. Two major gaps impede the adaptation of ERP/AI: implementation gap between current internal practices vs. ERP best practices, AI/IT skills gap, cloud architecture gap, and domain knowledge gaps of both users and developers. These gaps apply to both approaches of AI-ERP links. This paper concentrates on the augmented approach, but provides basic foundation on the embedded approach as will. A future paper will delve more in depth on the latter approach. The paper will serve as a source of knowledge for the selection and implementation of the AI-ERP link.

摘要
