In this chapter, we investigate the attitude dynamics of dumbbell and tether satellites. Both kinds of satellites are composed by two point-bodies connected through a massless rod that, in the dumbbell case, is assumed to be non extensible, while in the tether case the rod is assumed to be extensible and a spring-mass model is adopted. We analyze the attitude dynamics and the equilibrium solution for circular orbits. We also consider a simplified tether model, in which we include a dissipative term that takes into account the energy dissipation in the cable through a Rayleigh dissipation function.

摘要

In this chapter, we investigate the attitude dynamics of dumbbell and tether satellites. Both kinds of satellites are composed by two point-bodies connected through a massless rod that, in the dumbbell case, is assumed to be non extensible, while in the tether case the rod is assumed to be extensible and a spring-mass model is adopted. We analyze the attitude dynamics and the equilibrium solution for circular orbits. We also consider a simplified tether model, in which we include a dissipative term that takes into account the energy dissipation in the cable through a Rayleigh dissipation function.
