In this chapter we present a simple model for the description of the rotational dynamics of a satellite moving around a central planet. The spin-orbit model is first introduced in its conservative formulation, and then in its dissipative formulation that includes the tidal torque generated by the assumption that the satellite is non-rigid. We also present another dissipative effect, known as the Yarkovsky effect, and we extend the model to the case of a satellite moving in the gravitational field of a binary system.

摘要

In this chapter we present a simple model for the description of the rotational dynamics of a satellite moving around a central planet. The spin-orbit model is first introduced in its conservative formulation, and then in its dissipative formulation that includes the tidal torque generated by the assumption that the satellite is non-rigid. We also present another dissipative effect, known as the Yarkovsky effect, and we extend the model to the case of a satellite moving in the gravitational field of a binary system.
