The enhancement of the educational training concept at a technical university is a pertinent issue in view of the institution's role in providing effective and quality training for engineering and technical professionals in demand. One such method of optimizing professional training is the development and introduction of new methods utilizing computer programmes and internet resources into the educational process. The constant changes that are currently being observed in all areas of professional activity are associated with the use of knowledge-intensive information technologies. A review of the literature reveals that the organization of learning activities based on joint knowledge modules from different disciplines, such as mathematics and information, allows for the examination of the interrelationships between different forms of object representation from a scientific or experimental perspective. The utilization of information technologies enables the perception, storage and reproduction of any scientific information, as well as the generation of novel information, the creation of a new object of research, or the acquisition of new knowledge regarding the properties of the studied object. This article puts forward a methodology for teaching university students about mathematical models using software. The authors suggest using a range of software packages on mathematical courses, with an emphasis on the theory of mathematical modeling.
