Land Use Change in the Amazon Region: What Is Driving Deforestation?
摘要
This chapter offers insight into the Amazon region. It presents an analysis of the primary drivers of deforestation, employing land use and land cover (LULC) data and map analysis. The Mapbiomas methodology and georeferential data were used to produce LULC annual maps. The principal findings of satellite imagery analysis indicate that the conversion of natural vegetation areas to pasture and agricultural land is the primary driver of deforestation. This chapter also indicates that deforestation in the Amazon is the result of a multitude of human-related actions. It concludes by emphasizing the necessity of enhancing protection for the Amazon biome and fostering collaboration at the local level to implement sustainable planning practices.
