Hegel and Marx are connected as social and political theorists, but their relations are often characterised obscurely and at some distance from their texts. In this essay Hegel's philosophical thinking is related closely to Marx's social theorising. In particular Hegel's notion of infinity, and its good and bad forms, is related to Marx's notion of capital and his affiliated notion of money. This close reading of Hegel and Marx shows how their conceptual worlds are closely connected. The essay also highlights connections between Marx's early and late conceptualisation of society and the economy.

摘要

Hegel and Marx are connected as social and political theorists, but their relations are often characterised obscurely and at some distance from their texts. In this essay Hegel's philosophical thinking is related closely to Marx's social theorising. In particular Hegel's notion of infinity, and its good and bad forms, is related to Marx's notion of capital and his affiliated notion of money. This close reading of Hegel and Marx shows how their conceptual worlds are closely connected. The essay also highlights connections between Marx's early and late conceptualisation of society and the economy.
