In this chapter, we focus on one major theme found in our research: how the dangerous security situation permeated every aspect of Otef Aza residents’ personal, family, community and regional lives. In our first study, we found that the theme, “Routine Emergency,” which reflected life in the region, had five main components, detailed in this chapter. Residents created different praxes to help them cope with the increasing dangers. The increasing security threat further influenced residents’ thoughts and feelings about their parenting behaviors, and how the security threats were influencing their children. The events of October 7th completely changed residents’ reality, when a new reality of an existential threat abruptly began. The chapter presents a comparison of the results from then and now, in relation to this routine emergency, which became an existential threat.
