This chapter presents an overview of the Otef Aza region and the Gaza Strip, followed by a synopsis of the relations between Otef Aza and the Gaza Strip over the years, with a special focus on Israel-Hamas relations. The chapter, furthermore, provides basic background information on the five wars that have taken place in this area from 2008 up to and including the present-day war, Iron Swords. Moreover, the chapter provides details of what happened in Otef Aza on October seventh. This chapter, thus, provides the context for understanding the narratives and social media materials of Jewish-Israelis, who live near the Gazan border, that are presented throughout the book.
