The idea that diabetes targets bone and that bone fragility is a consequence of this illness is being supported by an increasing amount of evidence. Nowadays the term “diabetic osteoporosis” is commonly used to describe alterations in bone density and remodeling caused by diabetes mellitus. The increased risk of fractures is explained by microarchitecture deterioration, a low-grade chronic inflammation, an increased adipogenesis of adipose tissue located at the bone marrow, a poor glycemic control, a long-lasting disease, and the usage of some hypoglycemic drugs. Here we present a case of a woman affected by T2DM with typical features of “diabetic osteoporosis” as we can see in the following.
