This chapter provides the reader with an introduction to Microwave Photonics. Photonic approach of microwave (MW)/millimeter wave (MMW) signal generation over electronic method is also highlighted. This chapter also introduces the reader with the various simulation tools that can be used to simulate a microwave photonic system setting the stage for the detailed simulation-based explorations in subsequent chapters.
