Glocalisation Redefined: India’s Initiatives in a Changing World
摘要
“Culture” is a set of values and norms a society follows; it is one of the crucial factors affecting international business. If an enterprise wants to establish itself at a global level, then understanding the intricacies of the local culture is essential. It is observed in many scenarios that businesses that ignore culture and local needs struggle to become global brands. Thus, to grow globally, an enterprise needs to develop products that align with the local needs of the population of that particular country. This growing need for localisation gave birth to the concept of Glocalisation. Glocalisation is the blending term that mixes two major concepts- “Globalisation” and “Localisation”. Glocalisation ensures that global policies adapt to the particular cultural, legal, and economic needs of individual countries. It ensures that global entities coordinate and align with the local culture and laws of the countries in which they operate. In a country like India, which already has a diversified market and culture, glocalisation is the need of the hour. The current Government understands and focuses more on the concept of localisation and making the country self-reliant through various policy initiatives like Make in India, Startup India, Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Thus, the chapter focuses on analysing these policy initiatives and how they contribute to glocalisation. The chapter further delineates the challenges associated with their implementation and provides recommendations for overcoming them.
