This chapter elucidates the racist rhetoric advanced by Octavian Goga during the interwar period, a rhetoric that amalgamated “race” and “soul” to construct a community of belonging with impermeable borders. The exclusion of the Jewish minority was not articulated in religious terms (as evidenced in the cases of Crainic, Cuza, or Ionescu) but was entirely predicated on a racist rationale. In Goga’s writings, the presence of Jews was equated with a form of contamination that inevitably culminated in the annihilation of the Romanian nation.
