The article is focused on the digitalization of small- and medium-sized enterprises in Slovakia, which is not only a current trend, but also a necessity for those SMEs that are trying to gain a competitive advantage and adapt to new market conditions. Those who are not afraid to use the potential of technology and invest in technological innovations can achieve noticeable success and long-term sustainability. On the other hand, ignoring digitalization can lead to stagnation and loss of competitiveness. All in all, digitalization represents a fundamental step towards the growth and prosperity of SMEs in the modern economy. The main goal of the article is to present digitalization as the integration of modern technologies into business processes, which can include a wide range of measures—from the introduction of digital tools for project management, using cloud services, to the automation of customer support. As part of the article, a questionnaire was developed, which aims to evaluate the current state of digitalization among small- and medium-sized enterprises and provided valuable feedback, which is key for the future development and implementation of digital strategies in small- and medium-sized enterprises. The questionnaire made it possible to obtain valuable data about what technologies companies currently use, what obstacles prevent them from optimizing processes, and what their expectations and needs are around​​ digitalization. The information obtained served as a basis for the preparation of recommendations and strategies that will help SMEs to effectively transition to digital platforms and fully utilize the potential that digitalization offers. The conclusions of the article help not only to identify the level of digitization in the SME sector, but also to contribute to increasing public awareness and support entrepreneurs in their efforts to become more competitive in the digital era.
