This article adopts a speculative approach to reimagine the futures of higher education, with an emphasis on highly collaborative practices. Through the analysis of four speculative vignettes, it explores pedagogical approaches that connect present and futures-oriented teaching and learning methods. The co-creation and co-design of curricula provide numerous benefits, including integrating real-world relational challenges, embracing multidisciplinary perspectives, and promoting institutional advancement and innovation. Anchored in a speculative approach and the theory of practice architectures, this study proposes three key directions for future practices. Firstly, it identifies potential practice conditions that challenge educational norms. Secondly, it explores how integrating technology and AI into educational practices can facilitate collaboration and foster new modes of thinking and working. Thirdly, it advocates for a transformation in how learning is conceptualised and emphasises a context-responsive approach over rigid, context-bound methods. These speculations envisage higher education futures where outdated practices are relinquished, learning becomes more dynamic and meaningful, and technology serves as a cornerstone for collaborative and innovative educational experiences.
