In the twenty-first century, African countries are experiencing a high rate of population displacement. This chapter examines through doctrinal research methodology the relevant United Nations and African legal frameworks designed to protect the environmental rights of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Africa. It argues that normative and institutional weaknesses make these instruments ineffective in protecting these rights. The chapter concludes that measures to resolve these deficiencies depend on the political will of international and local actors.
