In this chapter, the term "ombudsman scheme" refers to an independent authority established by law, with jurisdiction extending across the entire country. These schemes are examined from a Finnish perspective. The Ombudsmen discussed include the Parliamentary Ombudsman, the Chancellor of Justice, as well as the Ombudsmen for Equality, Non-Discrimination, Data Protection, Intelligence, Children, Older People, Consumers, the Food Market, Cooperation, and Bankruptcy. A key characteristic shared by these ombudsman schemes is their independence, impartiality, and autonomy. This chapter presents the fundamental features of each scheme, along with an analysis of their general characteristics, distinctions, and interrelationships.
