This chapter develops a participant observation of design practices and research aimed at overcoming neoliberal practices. It formulates key contradictions in these practices by tracing the theoretical framework developed so far. In addition, it explores key concepts that might feature these practices, such as the hacking of objectified social relations, living projects seen as processes rather than as the production of things, commoning practices against urban enclosures and micro-utopias seen as retroactive, concrete, or immanent versions of the classical utopia. Furthermore, it assesses the extent to which these practices are capable of developing alternative design propositions.
