The emergence and spread of drug-resistant pathogens threaten the effectiveness of antimicrobial treatments, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Infection prevention and control (IPC) measures play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of AMR by preventing infections and reducing the need for antimicrobial use in patients. This chapter explores the interconnectedness of AMR and IPC from a planetary health perspective, emphasising the need for a holistic approach that considers the interplay between human activities, animal health, and environmental factors. This chapter examines the impact of climate change on the spread of infectious diseases and AMR, highlights successful interventions and programs implemented to address these challenges, and discusses the role of healthcare workers in preventing and controlling infections and AMR.
