Tests: From Open Curiosity (on the Way) to Systematic Analysis
摘要
The chapter carries out the first tests of ChatGPT as a conversation partner, text writer and task solver. Clarification of the description apparatus is presented in an interaction with tests of conversation courses with ChatGPT, called KB/Chat sessions. At the same time, the principles of field research are recalled to map the field of practice and follow the main themes of the debate, the field’s actors, and distinguish between the field researcher and the analyst. The mapping of public debates and their thematizations of the capabilities of AI technologies testify to a high level of ambition, which is tested by following two tracks (a) ChatGPT/Chat as an AI assistant that can solve analysis tasks (b) a conversation partner that functions dialogically with reference to both professional communication and ongoing everyday conversation. Against this background, the KB/Chat conversation is ensured to be thematically relevant and substantive, either by linking to the current debate, or a professionally concretized version of major welfare themes and equality issues. Through this, KB’s questioning position also ensures authenticity by aligning the role taken according to theme and context in the spectrum of ‘professional/colleague to colleague’, ‘teacher/student’, ‘patient/doctor’ and ‘friend/friend’. The gradual discoveries of the trial have consequences for the development of a systematic analysis. However, the consequence, which is already drawn in this chapter, maintains the field research’s focus on the highly topical debate about the phenomenon of AI/ChatGPT, but also leaves the starting position as a curious trial that simply follows KB/Chat’s ‘own’ cases and proportions.
