Orthodontic Management of Smile Aesthetics
摘要
Aesthetic perception becomes an increasingly important criterion in orthodontic treatment. That is why an aesthetic smile has emerged as an indispensable concept and gives direction to treatment. Social, psychological, and physical factors determine a smile. Even if the physical factor of a smile is highly standard, the subjective aspect of this smile is the most critical parameter. It is thought that negative teeth appearance may cause disturbances in patients’ daily lives even though there is no handicapping or pain related to dental and facial appearance. Corrections of alignment, spacing, and aesthetic factors in a malocclusion mainly remedy the smile. There are three pathways in general orthodontic treatment strategies for correcting or creating an aesthetic smile. The first option is the alignment of crowded teeth or the reconstruction of arches with spacing. The second is eliminating gingival and/or buccal vestibular avulsions. Soft tissue rearrangements or restorations are achieved thirdly. Orthodontics has traditionally been considered as the area involved in the correction of facial disfigurements as well as the tendency and necessity caused by malocclusion. In addition to functional and biological analyses, treatment planning for correcting dentofacial deformity has benefited from aesthetic evaluations for many years. However, the photographic and cinematographic industries have enhanced the popularity of the aesthetic perceptions and valuations of the population.
