This research proposes that Cultural Psychology holds potential for enriching our comprehension of gender performances and their diverse forms of expression in situations of social vulnerability. Drawing on the semiotic concept of “borders,” this study offers an interpretation of how individuals who identify as transgender engage with their surroundings through a range of dynamics, including their multifaceted life histories, processes of gender identity constitution, and self-perception within these dynamics. The study further posits that the quality and strategies of cross-border contact and transition could either facilitate or hinder the expression and experience of gender for these individuals.

摘要

This research proposes that Cultural Psychology holds potential for enriching our comprehension of gender performances and their diverse forms of expression in situations of social vulnerability. Drawing on the semiotic concept of “borders,” this study offers an interpretation of how individuals who identify as transgender engage with their surroundings through a range of dynamics, including their multifaceted life histories, processes of gender identity constitution, and self-perception within these dynamics. The study further posits that the quality and strategies of cross-border contact and transition could either facilitate or hinder the expression and experience of gender for these individuals.
