This chapter offers a critical discussion of journalists’ emotional responses, ethical concerns, and educational needs in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) integration within journalism. Organized into three sections—emotional responses, cross-cultural perspectives, and ethics and training—the analysis reveals complex patterns of emotional labor, professional adaptation, and ethical reflection across seven countries. While journalists express a spectrum of emotions ranging from enthusiasm to anxiety, their collective narratives emphasize the urgent need for critical AI education, transparent regulatory frameworks, and participatory dialogue within media organizations. The chapter introduces the conceptual frameworks of Humanized Diagnostic Media Approach (HDMA) and Critical Transparency and Informed Disclosure (CTID) to explain journalists’ needs for ethical AI integration. It also proposes the notion of “Imperfect AI” as a way to conceptualize AI adoption not as a seamless technological shift but as a dynamic and ethically contingent process that demands continual negotiation between technological innovation, professional identity, and social responsibility.
