Parent-mediated intervention (PMI) is a key aspect in a holistic, compassionate, and inclusive approach to supporting profoundly autistic children and their families. PMI is not only beneficial for the individual child, it is inclusive of their whole family and the wider community support networks. In this chapter, a number of case studies are presented to illustrate how teaching parents about basic behavior analytic principles can raise self-awareness and develop skills, help parents to set goals, and design and implement individually tailored interventions. Practice tips and recommendations are provided for parents, trainers, and supervisors.
