An important component of a comprehensive treatment package in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is parent training. Due to the known benefits of parent involvement and training, behavior analysts must be equipped with the skills to implement and measure effective parent training outcomes. Using empirical evidence, this chapter will highlight the plethora of benefits of parent training (e.g., generalization of skills, long-term outcomes, and decreasing parental stress), instructional formats used (e.g., the teaching interaction procedure, behavioral skills training, video modeling, and active coaching), and implementation methods (e.g., group, individual, in-person, telehealth). Following a review of the seminal literature and current research, the proposed benefits and barriers of parent training will be examined along with recommendations for further research and clinical application. Lastly, evidence-based practices for increasing parent training effectiveness, proposed measurement systems, and strategies for teaching staff to implement parent training will be provided.
