This chapter provides an analysis of the legal approach towards domestic violence (DV) in the Republic of North Macedonia (RNM). The chapter intends to offer a holistic analysis of the position of the victims of DV from a penal, civil and victimological perspective, as well as to bring forth the need for a holistic approach by criminal justice authorities to addressing DV. The authors consider that collaboration among justice authorities and other State institutions is crucial, and they emphasize the importance of providing shelter for victims while prosecuting DV cases. The chapter analyzes the available data on the spread of DV cases in RNM and, more precisely, in the Polog region (Northwestern part of RNM). The chapter provides recommendations on implementing legal provisions and offering support to victims of DV.
