Domestic settings as a private/family life sphere have been abused as a criminal law immunity area by the perpetrators of domestic violence regarding various types of crime, such as injury, threat, sexual offences and defamation, etc. This sphere requires the particular attention of criminal justice authorities to prevent the perpetrators from enjoying impunity or receiving lenient punishment for their violence at home. Furthermore, those involved in criminal investigation and prosecution of domestic violence are not always sufficiently trained to cope with this type violence at home, as opposed to acts of violence by strangers in the public sphere, since violence at home demands special attention (e.g., evidence gathering) from judicial authorities. This book offers a micro-level comparative analysis to draw conclusions from different jurisdictions in Europe, as such, to offer holistic solutions on how to tackle the issue of ineffective criminal prosecutions. The contributions in this edited book fill the research gaps from a comparative perspective by proving the importance of learning from one another for every jurisdiction.
