Strategies for Prospective Governance of Organizations in Africa
摘要
Focusing on corporate governance in the African transport and logistics sector, this chapter examines forward-looking strategies developed in a rapidly changing context. Lemaire’s Political-Regulatory, Economic-Social and Technological (PREST) model is used to address this issue. This model refers to the relevant geo-sectoral reference space for a company’s internationalization, i.e., the space of international expansion it is targeting (country, group of countries, world), depending on whether it wishes to define its strategy in a targeted or global way. Based on this model, this chapter identifies the local and/or continental governance that companies must adopt to contribute to the development of the African continent. The pillars of this governance are transparency, collective responsibility, partnerships with stakeholders, accountability for actions taken, ability to respond to the needs of the population, etc. On the other hand, the obstacles that need to be overcome in order to put it in place are poverty, public health problems, educational shortcomings, political instability, corruption, nepotism, unpunished misappropriation of public funds, etc. These obstacles have a major impact on development strategies in all areas. By redefining the modes of governance of African companies, it will then be possible to move toward greater regional integration of logistics and transport activities.
