Digitalization has impacted people’s interest in news consumption. According to the survey by IDN Media, only around 3–6% of 1162 respondents are still reading the content in text format, with only 50% of the text content being news media articles. The reasons for this behavior vary, such as the wariness of finding hoaxes and misinformation, poor-quality content, disturbance of Artificial Intelligence, and more. This research will analyze the current and recommended improvements for news media workers from a software engineering perspective by conducting a systematic literature review, press release collection, and creating a new model called NEWSBOK. The NEWSBOK will be used to score three news media. The recommendation for the tested news media is to improve on the software foundations as a priority and software development domains, including on the fake news detection for Indonesian articles.
