In this chapter, we discussed the integration of the metaverse in the education environment that modifies the previously distinct options and becomes an effective tool for engaging learning. As the current educational forms are in constant development, different types of coursework and virtual classrooms appear as sustainable solutions. Virtual classrooms increase the interactivity to some extent as they allow real-time communication and cooperation, which is a great asset in providing a personal approach to distance learning. There is a need to enhance the digital skills development of the urban workforce for the provision of the emerging economic environment. Smart technologies, such as 5G/6G, help in providing education inclusively in smart cities. It has been established that these technologies improve enrolment and access to educational material, which helps meet the diversity oflearners’ requirements. These advancements are used by higher education institutions to give marginalized people an equal chance to access education . Modern approaches like gamification and exposure to learning through virtual and augmented reality define the options of learning. These tools also enhance learning as they engage more knowledge delivery modes and increase the students’ interest in learning. Open Educational Resources (OER) and digital libraries should be embraced by ensuring education is afforded to as many people as possible.
