In this chapter, we discussed the idea of sustainable smart city development that helps to integrate and enhance the process of restructuring the urban environments to be smart to face the challenges due to advancements in technology. Some strategies, like, digital democracy and smart governance, MaaS, renewable energies and microgrids, healthcare, Industry 5.0 and sustainable manufacturing, IoT and edge computing, Net-ZEBs and green infrastructures, agricultural precision and vertical farming, and education are highlighted in detail for the further development of the cities and making it more livable for the citizens. Furthermore, Society 5.0 is essential to fundamentals of smart city sustainability regarding a human-oriented society where economic growth and social issues are postulated to be fixed via the confluence of cyberspace and the physical space. However, it very essential that the transition principles be ethical-social, equal, private, and diverse. In this way, if smart cities adopt these ideas and technologies, they can find a way of elaborating a sustainable development that respects both people and the environment.

摘要
