Research on the Correlation Between Street Canyon Light Environment Based on Visual Comfort and Traffic Landscape Design

The mountainous topography and architectural configurations of Chongqing create intricate light environments within street canyons, significantly affecting drivers’ visual comfort. This study examines the interplay between street canyon morphology and light environments, emphasizing the impact of key parameters such as aspect ratios, orientation, and vegetative landscaping on light distribution. Through case studies, the research investigates the “light-filtering” effects of street trees, sun glare, and issues related to reflective and transmissive surfaces, all of which have potential implications for vehicular safety. Based on these findings, the study proposes design optimization strategies for traffic-integrated landscapes. The conclusions underscore that refining light environments and enhancing traffic-oriented landscape design can markedly improve drivers’ visual comfort, thereby advancing overall traffic safety. Future research should develop a holistic analytical framework and integrate smart technologies to further elevate drivers’ visual experiences and road safety.
