A Matchmaking Framework for Digital Transaction Platforms for Net-Zero Technologies and Services: Development and Theoretical Foundations

To achieve the UK’s net-zero goal by 2050, digital transaction platforms (DTPs) have emerged to facilitate matchmaking between sellers and buyers of net-zero technologies and services (NTSs). However, the adoption of these technologies remains slow, with a significant gap between production and uptake. This study investigates how DTPs can enhance matchmaking effectiveness in the NTS market by employing a sequential exploratory mixed-methods approach. A qualitative interview study (27 participants) identified key factors shaping digital matchmaking, followed by a quantitative survey (245 valid responses) to validate these factors. Findings highlight trust, knowledge exchange, and efficiency as critical elements in facilitating transactions. Based on these insights, a digital matchmaking framework was developed to improve platform usability, trust-building, and engagement. This research contributes to the understanding of definition matchmaking that happens in DTP environment, and offers strategic recommendations for leveraging DTPs to enhance digital matchmaking to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon solutions in the construction industry.
