This chapter recaps the main findings of part 1. It examined the former soldiers’ initial pathways to psychedelic drug use, and how they were defined by renegotiations of social identity following their institutional ‘release’ from military service into the deregulated sociological container of ‘civvy street’. It highlighted the self-regulating, subcultural rituals they established and employed when procuring psychedelic drugs, and the unique ways in which they frame their eventual, high dose consumption. Their resistance to mainstream psychedelic narratives was also considered, alongside their emphasis on collective, communal methods for psychedelic-veteran interventions.
