They can cause major maintenance and repair expenses by causing damage to buildings, roadways, and drainage systems. Additionally, invasive plants diminish the aesthetic and biological significance of urban green spaces, which detracts from their allure for tourists and leisure. Invasive species in cities do more than just physical harm to the economy. Reduced property prices in the impacted areas and higher medical costs as a result of allergies or pests linked to these plants are examples of indirect costs. The cost of controlling infestations, from mechanical removal and chemical treatments to public awareness campaigns, is frequently high for municipalities. This chapter presents an in-depth exploration of the economic implications of invasive plant species in urban settings. It highlights the ways in which these plants affect city budgets, recreational opportunities, urban aesthetics, and public services.
