Extreme Fast Charging Using Solid State Transformer
摘要
Electric vehicles play significant role in reducing the greenhouse emissions. However, the insufficient charging infrastructure and long charging times lead to driving range anxiety. By using Extreme Fast Charging (XFC), it is possible to charge the electric vehicle within the time of 10–30 min. Solid State Transformer (SST) is a versatile power electronic distribution transformer which converts Medium Voltage AC (MVAC) to Low Voltage DC (LVDC) and has control features of such as reactive power compensation, voltage regulation, fast dynamic response, bi-directional power flow control and fault isolation. In this paper, a SST topology is presented EV fast charging with multiple DC nodes. The topology consists of Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) converter and Dual Active Bridge converter (DAB). CHB converts MVAC to Medium Voltage DC (MVDC) and all the H-bridge modules are connected in series. DAB converts MVDC to LVDC using a high frequency transformer and all the DAB are connected in parallel. A control scheme is presented for the control of dc voltages of MVDC and LVDC links.
