The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, as the third pole of the earth, is one of the three “high wind areas” in China. Its wind energy development is of great significance to my country’s realization of the “dual carbon” goal. Carrying out targeted research on wind characteristics is a necessary prerequisite for promoting the scientific development of wind energy resources in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This study focuses on the typical high-altitude area in the southeast of Qamdo. Based on the long-term data of the wind tower, combined with the short-term data of the lidar and the ERA5 global reanalysis data, the complex characteristics of the local wind field are comprehensively characterized. First, through the analysis of the climate background field, the climate characteristics of the large-scale background wind field in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are revealed; then, a multi-scale analysis is carried out from multiple dimensions such as the seasonal evolution characteristics of wind speed, the vertical stratification structure of wind direction, and the spatiotemporal distribution of wind shear index. Finally, the unique wind field characteristics of the typical high-altitude area in the southeast of Qamdo are summarized.
